Who's my favorite author? Walter Dean Myers. He's written lots of
books for young adults including some historical fiction. Bad Boy is
a memoir about his life and is pretty interesting and the author is still
living and writing. Some of his books include: Autobiography of My
Dead Brother/Scorpions/Somewhere in the Darkness/Fallen Angels.

If you need to research a notable author try John Steinbeck, Jane Austen, C.S. Lewis, J.R. Tolkein, etc... Its harder to find info about some of today's authors. People tend to write more about the dead.

Robert A. Heinlein, first and foremost. He wrote during the 70s, hippie days, and so he wrote freely about sex, he wrote funnily about the way people behaved and above all he was a great sci fi author.
