You need to take a drivers test to get a motorcycle license. The type of bike all depends on what you are looking for.
A Kawasaki Ninja 250 is a good starteer bike and only costs $3000 brand new. You could also pick up a used suziki sv650.
look for a clean title with no crash history. It's hard to tell if a bike has been crashed. If it has custom paint... it's probably been crashed. If the frame is deeply scratched its also probably been dropped.
Test the suspension: push down on the front and back of the bike and see if the bike bounces back up or comes back up slowly and smoothly. If it bounces back up... thats bad.
Inspect the motor for any spots that are wet will oil (which would indicate a leak)

U mentioned nothing about type,sooooo...ur choice is fm less to more$$$:moped, scooter, motorcycle. Moped invariably need not license as any motor <50cc. In Fl u need no license for that unless ur in an accident (crazy law). >50cc need license and endorcement given by test. Motorcycle Safety Foundation has excellent courses. Go local for all ur choices. Most anything with the engine hidden by fairing is fast and more expensive than a bike where u can see the engine and exhaust. Moped and scooters are not "bikes" most mopes and scoots are cheaper than bikes. If bike, start with one that has an engine and exhaust headers u can see. After that it's ur choice. Also, ask a biker. Everyone else has little experience, $$$,or like what they ride. G'luck

Well you need to have a motorcycle licenses or you can have a car licenses. I would get a 2 cylinder bike, just in case a cylinder breaks you can still ride the bike to a mechanic. For a first bike get something from a 50cc to a 125cc. Yamaha, Honda, or a Suzuki. I would advice you to look at a KMX 125, or the Honda CBR 125.

The first thing to know is how to ride one. I recommend taking a class like those offered by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. You'll often get your license once you pass the class. Then I'd go looking for a relatively new Japanese-made 250 cc bike in whatever style you like - they are cheap, reliable, and easy to ride.

Get a scooter for riding on campus. No motorcycle endorsement is required to ride a scooter unless it is Scooter Libby. If you do plan to buy a motorcycle, take the motorcycle safety class first.

You should know there are two types of motorcycle riders:
1. Those who have crashed
2. Those who are gonna
When they scrape you off the street and take you to the hospital, everyone in the hospital refers to motorcycle riders as "organ donors".
For $2,000 you're looking at Japanese bikes over 2 years old with only nominal displacement.
Yes, there is a driving test to get your m/c license.

mo-ped no test--- motorcycle requires driver test... for your use the smaller the better and buy a big chain to strap the rear wheel to the frame ................... get a quiet muffler and you won't get any complaints from campus cops....
