You'll love the shopping!! I wish I had actually made more room in the suitcase! It is shopping heaven and if you want to redecorate your place it's the perfect place to get things. Clothes maybe not so good..... But we bought rugs, beautiful wall hangings, lanterns, gorgeous blocks of scent. Some great beads that everytime I wear them to work everyone asks me where I got them from, some lovely handmade leather slippers too! Make sure you go right into the souks to get the best deal. If you go around the entrances it's ok, but the jewellery and gold is better the further in you go. Try and get yourself a guide as they will take you to the best places. If you are staying in a Riad (which I highly recommend) they will know the best people. One thing we got caught with was when we went on a horse and carriage ride, the driver stopped outside a shop and ushered us in, we felt quite pressured to buy from them...... Although we bought some scented oils and they were lovely. For the shopping stay in the Medina rather than going into Gueliz (The New Town). And don't forget to haggle with them, they will start with crazy prices - we bought some rugs but they wanted like £500 to start with and my hubbie got up to walk away and they backed down quickly. You really need to hold your own. Also a good tip, take lots of pens, preferably ones that have brand names on them and use them when you are haggling, you can give them away and it gets the price down and they love it. I had an Audi pen with me and they almost ripped my arms off for it!
PS - Making eye contact with any of the sellars will have them in your face quicker than anything. If you see something you like, don't point it out straight away!

Yes I have been to Morocco loads of times because my son is half Moroccan.
If you know any locals the best things is to go shopping with the natives so you will not get cheated. Most things are cheaper in Morocco, food is fresh and natural. Often locals will invite you in for a meal if they see that you are a tourist. Moroccans are very hospitable people and also very giving. You can make friends very quickly there. If you are interested in buying something don't seem to keen because they will put down the price if they think that you are not that interested in souvenirs. Leather are their specialities, Moroccan leather is supposed to be the best. They have lots of cafes where you can drink mint tea which is also very nice. Morocco was under the influence of France for a number of years, so their second language is French, so it helps if you speak French. Out of the Muslims countries their country is one of the least strict, so it is a nice country to visit and has wonderful beaches.

Shopping in Morocco is great fun. They have a haggling culture. You should enjoy it. What ever price they are asking, offer a lot less and then you keep up the pretence until you both settle on a price.

Its fun. And you can pick up some real bargains.

Yes yes yes! Great quality and very cheap prices for things you buy much more expensive at other places. I haven't visited Morocco but my parents did a few times and every time they go they bring me some really good stuff. Plus your style will be very exceptional ( since very few people will have clothes like yours)

I was there in May 2006, and yes the shopping is awesome. The thing is you have to shop around for what you are looking for...You can dicker with the shop owners depending on the Medina(the open air markets)

My tip - leave the shopping to the end and do it in Rabat. Then you don`t have to haul all your goodies around with you. Rabat was the only place that we could shop in peace without being attacked by store-owners. Have fun!

The souks and other markets are good but, if they offer to wrap an item for you, try to have it done where you can see it. We found we had a warped dish when we got home, not the one we'd chosen.

excellent - fez pottery, leather goods - bags, belts, shoes, material, clothes, tourist stuff, spices, lampshades, mosaics, carpets......

BUT you need to haggle hard (real hard) tip - if you see a hint of a smile you have a realistic price, if you see a big smile frown etc....you are paying too much!

look over things carefully, and dont buy unless you want something..
