They arent necessary for most identification purposes.
Theres another girl in my school with my first and last name, spelled the same way, and our middle names are the only thing that set us apart namewise.

I think a middle name does come in handy when you have a very common last name. For example.. My brother in-law was arrested for a warrant that was for someone else. If he had a middle name they would have probably realized they had the wrong guy. My nephew always has a problem in school because he has the same name as someone else. My nephew is in the top 5% of his class and the other guy is in the lower grade. My nephew contently has to go and have things changed in the office.

Not nessary, but middle names like mine Michelle has a special meaning. Michelle stands for miralce. All the together my name stands for "a miracle child". Michelle also means stubburn. Some people also go by their middle names or initials. Also my friend Valeriie's middle name, Helen, is special to her because it is her dead grandmothers first name. It just depends on the person and family.

Don't think so. Some people wish they didn't have their middle names! The only good thing about them is if you have a common first and last name. Then you can know if mail, and other things are yours or not.

No they aren't-legally you don't need one. What about those people who have 2 or 3 (or more) middle names? How many people do you have to name your kid after? Personally, I think middle names were invented by mothers who needed a way to let their kids know they weren't just in trouble, but they were REALLY in trouble! lol

If you are into Family heritage or who's who, maybe names matter.Names usually mean something where they originated.
Two names are just as good as three or four.I myself like simplicity.Cher the singer/actress goes by Cher. That's all folks...

Don't think they're necessary. Don't like my middle name, it's quite boring...it's Ann.

of course!!! imagine how would a person be distinct from another having the same first and last name.
its also a way of valuing your mother's maiden name. a connection to relatives.
