I've removed the trim and I'm ready to unscrew and pull the unit out. In the owners handbook I've read the stereo has an anti-theft alarm. Will this go off as soon as I start removing the unit? If not, at what point does the alarm go off?

First of all, it would really help to have the CODE handy because without the code, once that radio is unplugged it is worthless.

You need to read your Owner's manual to see what turns your alarm on / off, and if it's not the radio then you have little to worry about.

On my older 3-series, neither car's alarm system is set off by the radio. On one, all the radio does is control an ignition system shut off, which when the radio is removed, simply doesn't work anymore. On the other, the Viper alarm is controlled via a separate switch.
