that coil is only 40 years old .....go get a new one --- your are better off with some new parts and you can drive worry free ....ANSWER and INSTRUCTIONS;;;;;; pull the wire out of the distributor -leaving the wire in the coil plugged in - touch the coil wire towards to the engine block (insulate your hand from the end of the wire as it will shock you badly if contact is made) and then get someone to start the p/up and see if there is a spark/arc from the wire to the block ---- no spark means replace the coil with a new one ..................

You could pull a plug and hook the wire back up, then ground the plug and have a friend crank the engine and see if you're getting spark.

You could take the coil to a parts store and have them test it.

you need to change to HEI distrib. points are a pain. Im not sure how on a points.

take it off and take it to auto zone.they can check it for you.
