According to TV Guide, they are going to make 100 episodes. The 100th episode will be the end of the series. They are on episode 58 right now, so we are more than halfway down. They make approx 25 episodes a season, so we are probably good for one more season.

actually it is the opposite of what you are thinking. One of the reasons that LOST took such a long hiatus is because the creators were meeting with ABC Execs about when the show would end because the network is dragging it out.
When the creators made lost they knew from the beginning what was going to happen, when, to who. They are not making this up as they go along, they have it well plotted and thought out and it was a 4 year plan.
The problem is that the show became SO successful that ABC started making them drag their feet. Lost started becoming mundane when the creators had to start making up stories and filling space to drag out the show.
Because the show started dragging, the creators met with the ABC execs to come to an agreement of when the show would end (even it was still huge ratings) so they could properly plot the remainder of the story. They have not said what the agreement was but at least they have an end date in mind and can get back to sticking to the story. In the next few weeks it should start humming along at the pace of season one. I look forward to it.

Well, if they'd ever figure out what the hell is going on, then the show would have to end. So they keep inventing stranger things on the island for them to endure. Hopefully, they'll bring it to an interesting conclusion instead of drawing it out indefinitely, getting lamer and lamer until nobody cares anymore. (Or they finally kill off everyone).

I have drifted away from watching lost, it totally lost my interest because it drags on for too long, and they keep introducing new things. =]
Probably will be canceled, but at least not for another year. Just my opinion.

probably. most shows like that end before the story is up....gives a comeback option if it gets rescheduled
