Who'd have thought that the judges all HAD to have a glass of coke every single time they sit behind their desk? It must be very thirsty work being a judge and only coca-cola can hit the spot!
I know that the glass is obscured each time but it's pretty obviously a coca-cola glass. And they are there EVERY show (even the early auditions). Why?? How do the producers get away with this if they aren't supposed to advertise (which is why I'm presuming the glass is obscured).
Can anyone explain this? It bugs me everytime I see the show.

Actually, it's probably worth me mentioning that I'm in Britain. The glasses are always obscured over here. Maybe it isn't sponsored by coca-cola here and that's why. Are the glasses not blured in the States then?

Yes, it is blatant advertising. But since people don't seem to be paying attention to commercials as much anymore, these companies are trying to find new ways to get their products out there. And no, in the States, the Coke isn't blurred out. At least, not that I've ever noticed.

Why can't they advertise? I'm sure Coca Cola paid a pretty penny to have all the judges have a "Coke" sitting in front of them.

COCA COLA IS THE BIG SPONSER OF AMERICAN IDOL AND THE JUDGES HAVE NO CHOICE ABOUT THE CUP IN FRONT OF THEM. IT IS LIKE IN THE MOVIE "AMERICAN DREAMZ" IN WHICH IT WAS PEPSI. IT WAS A JOKE ABOUT THE COLA WARS AND THE SHOW.
PERSONALLY IT COULD BE WATER IN THAT CUP AS IT IS NOT A SEE THROUGH CUP. BUT IT IS CALLED SUGGESTIVE SELLING. LOL.

Shows rely on advertisers to help promote the show. This is everywhere in our society. Plus, Coke tastes better than Pepsi!
