Seems like someone is treating you like property which is really a low blow to your self-esteem. I think that such behavior is wrong. As you got and get older your sense of freedom really resonates inside you. That's natural. You are not tied to the house as much as you used to be and you have mobility. All these things make parents fearful and they may say things that are not fair and hurtful. They are reacting to the fact that at some time in the future, you will not longer be there. At that time you will have decided to move on, to establish your own life and on your own terms.
I would like to think that you step-mother mis-spoke. The life you have is your own and willl always be your own unless you give it away. There are control issues here, but you don't want to engage in a power struggle. Sidestep the temptation and you will feel better for it. You do live in the house and you are bound to live by the guidelines they establish. however, not at the cost of your character or your self-esteem. RESPECT is a 2-way street.

In your case, that woman did not give birth to you so she has no ownership in you are what you do. Only you're real mother may own you because you were sole dependent on her every move in order to have a life to begin with. Ask you're step mom since she thinks she owns you how long was your labor.

wELL i GUESS THAT IF YOU LIVE UNDER HER ROOF THEN MAYBE SHE MIGHT HAVE A POINT.You are intitled by the age of 17 to make some of your own decissions. Parents tend to try and save you from everything that we have been through. Not thinking that as a kid no one could tell us what to do either you have to learn from your own mistakes it seems. I do however know in the state of massachusettes that your a legal adult at the age of 17 not 18 as alot of people think!

"Around the age of seven-teen"...? Anyway...
No, she doesn't really own you, but as your step mom she has some legal responsibility for you -- not total legal responsibility, but some. And if you live in her house and she pays for your food, clothes, etc... well, you are going to have to put up with her.
Stepmoms are a pain, yea?

Children aren't owned (and yes your still a child). The only thing in life we have to do is be born and die... everything else is a choice. Whether you do good or bad in your life is your choice and something that is owned doesn't have choices like that.

A teenager has a right to their own life. Nobody lives your life but you.

You lead your own life, but as long as you're under 18 and still living with parents, they basically have control over almost everything.

Right after she moves out and starts paying her own bills.
Face it sweetie; you have to deal with it till you are on the way to college or working for a living and in your own appt.
Fair just doesn't enter into it.

Become an emancipated minor. That means you can legally own your own life....your own living arrangements, your own bills, your own debts. If you can afford your own living, go for it. Otherwise, your parents "own" you. Follow their rules.

I told my son that the only right he has is to breathe fresh air...everything else is a privilege that he has to earn. I believe this way as long as he's in my house regardless of his age.
