I am 8 weeks pregnant with twins. My husband and I already have a 2 1/2 year old! We are so excited but REALLY nervous. We really thought we pretty much knew everything about pregnancy. I went for my second u/s yesterday. The heart rates were good-145 and 162. My dr. said that was encouraging. She was a little concerned about the sizes of the babies. One is measuring 8w2days and the other is 7w1d. She said that later on in the pregnancy-this would cause for alarm, but she's not sure if it's really a big deal right now. So she has referred me to an at-risk specialist. They decided not to see me until I am 16 weeks. So I am thinking it's not too big of an emergency. I am really scared though--and concerned. I know that I will worry the whole time, but I was wondering if anyone else has had twins with measurements like these at 8 weeks and what your dr. said.... Thanks!

The thing to remember about twins is that there can sometimes be a big difference in size. Your doctor sending you to a specialist is smart. There is a condition, twin-to-twin transfusion, that can occur between a multiple pregnancy where one twin is "being donated" blood from the other. It is not something you caused, it just happens. They want to make sure that is not the case. Remember, some twins just happen to have a smaller one out of the bunch as well. Read up more on it with webmd.

Congratulations first off. I too am pregnant with twins and am currently 12 weeks and have a 1 1/2 year old. When I went for my ultrasound. The Doctor told me that the babies both were measuring out to the same length. I suggest if you think that something is wrong then you should always get a second opinion. Try to look around for another specialist who make take you at an earlier stage. Always get a second opinion.

Mine were measuring 5 days apart at 7 weeks its really no big deal. Thats why there are specialists they will help you. Obviously you dont have to worry about Twin to Twin Transfusion because they aren Identical. (TTTS is when one baby steals ALL the nutrients only usually happens in ID twins) I am now 32 weeks and Baby A is 4lbs 1oz and Baby B is 4 lbs 2 oz. So they have evened out and are ready to come out!!! Good Luck and dont stress about it!!!

The difference could be as minor as you having babies of different genders. This early babies develop really, really fast and are getting all their vital organs into place, but it isn't written in stone that they always do so at the exact same pace. I'd not worry so much. I'm pretty sure you'll even out.
