I am currently on Microgestin and on Efexxor. I went off of them both for about a month and noticed a HUGE increase in my sexual drive! I need to stay on both the meds, so does anyone know of a birth control pill that boots sex drive or atleast doesn't kill it?

Talk to your doctor about it, I am sure the nurse could even help you over the phone. I know what you mean about Yasmin...until I realized it was the guy I was with rather than the birth control itself that wasn't doing anything for me. Good Luck..there are 100's out there.

The antidepressant is probably the bigger culprit in low sex drive than the pill. However, ANY chemical in the body can effect your mood.

If you had better sex drive off the meds then maybe its something to think about. Consider changing to a barrier method (like Lea's Shield) for a while and see if there's a difference. If not, then you'll know for sure it's the Effexor.

Try Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo or Hi......I am sensitive in that department so i wouldnt know if my sex drive is down or not. Havent tried so many different birth control pills but never had a problem when i was on OTC birth control pill, until i came off it and decided to try depo provera, which gave me not just low sex drive but dried me up quite a bit. I finally got off that bad stuff, giving myself a lil break from all of them pills but about to start taking Ortho low again. I am more then sure it would be just perfect for you.

I was previously on Effexor and had NO sex drive. I don't think the birth control is necessarily the problem for you. For the best advice, you should contact your local pharmacist. He or she will know more about your prescriptions and how they interact and what side effects they can produce. They may also be able to suggest alternatives.

It is very likely that the Efexxor was the drug causing the lack of sex drive, many anti-depressants have that side effect. Drugs such as Welbutrin or Serzone are less likely to cause sexual side effects. You should talk to your doctor to see if he recommends switching. If you don't report the side effects you are having he won't know.
