My current PC is old & slow and I now want to upgrade with a particular view to getting something not too expensive which will allow me to run the various bits of photographic wizardy which I have.
I don't play games (OK - Solitaire - but that doesn't count!) so I don't need any of the specialist bits for that.
Any advice on what I specifically need to be looking for other than a massive hard disk!?

Not necessarly a large hard disc but a large amount of RAM will make a pc "fast" 1gig of RAM should definatly be sufficient other than that there is nothing you really need except make sure before you buy it that it has a good graphics card! Have Fun!

Apart from the obvious "massive hard drive" most modern PCs will do more than enough for the average person ( I'm assuming you're not a professional photographer).
Spend some of your hard earned cash on a good quality photo manipulation software package as thats where a lot of your work will be done.

Go for the best you can afford, you say it's only for digital photoraphy editing, but the prices are now at a reasonable level for a good machine. If you buy one that will just do the job you may later find you get interested in video editing etc. If you spend a bit more you will leave yourself a few more options.

I fell into that trap and bought an average computer with average memory and bought a really good editing editing suite as a result I had to increase the memory so take note= get more than you need because when you get good at the photos you will need all good "spec".
