i dont think that he should be taken away from his mother...i think that both should have to go through an education programme for healthy eating food awareness and so on...akin maybe to rehab...especially the mother/parents...i think they should be put under supervision of a specialist doctor and their progress to be checked regularly.....this level of obesity in a young child is down to either genes or simply not being educated to food and your body...and its that simple...i do believe in a persons right to do what they please...but an 8 year old child has no choice...

he may stand a chance of making it passed his 20th birthday.
well anyway just heard he'll stay with his mum.
hope the shock of what might have happened has given her a wake up call & she starts 2 take her sons health seriously.
& there's worse things in the world than 1 obese kid.

That is pretty extreme -- taking a child away from there family for a weight problem. But this is not a healthy environment for him and she is refusing to help. I don't know what the answer is... that is a tough one.

I think the mother just needs to learn how to feed her kid properly and work together with him to find a good diet. I don't think they should take him away from her. That is cruel. Some people are just genetically made to be fat, not matter what.

hard one. If a kid gets too over weight it could kill him.
give the mom lessons on good food, better still give her the money to buy decent food, which is often more expensive

I think the mother needs as much help as the kid, but care wont help either of them.
