It depends upon the subfield you are looking at. Poli sci has comparative, American, International Relations, political theory subfields, among others. If you want to do something like political theory, UC Berkeley is probably a great place. The University of Michigan has a great program in American studies, and it is a top-notch research institution (excellent if you want to focus on statistical modelling). Harvard is also an all-around great school, but very tough to get into. Try to look at several issues of the 'US News and World Report' rankings of graduate programs, and focus also on the subfields you are interested in. A school may not rank nationally in Political Science in general, but it may rank at or near the top in a particular subfield, so don't simply overlook a school because it isn't an Ivy.

I would say the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. Buy they might call it a masters in government, not political science. I have a friend that did it. He later went to law school, but he said there were good jobs available for the Government grads even without a law degree. I don't know how the jobs pay though, and it's obviously expensive and hard to get in the school, but I have heard the classes are fascinating, and taught by renowned politicians in many cases.

Which country?

University of Wales Aberystwyth and Calahan school of political science (within the swansea university) are the best two in wales.

England has a few specialist schools in london (small ones like the school of asian studies), london school of economics is a good one, of course so are oxford and cambridge.

Johns Hopkins is underrated in the usa. Also go for columbia, notre dame, and a few others (depending on your area of specialty).

i respect Lao Tzu. i trust he merely might want to have fairly mastered himself. i imagine self mastery is a rarity and that i have not finished this. it truly is a lofty purpose to shoot for and that i wish to sometime attain it before I die.
