If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. That means if you don't work out what you're going to do, you're not likely to succeed.
In a game of chance like Candyland, that of course is not the case. But if you're playing chess, you look at your options and you think ahead. You plan things out in your head, and you constantly plan depending on what your opponents are doing.
Some people criticize how the US government reacts to national emergencies. But when you compare it to other countries, building codes make buildings hold up better in earth quakes, the way the roads are planned allow cars and buses to get out quickly and the whole emergency system saves lives.
When we're taken by surprise though, there are disastrous and even fatal results. Planning means that we know ahead of time what might happen and get ready for it, with fire drills, business plans, insurance policies, wills, etc.

The saying goes:
If you fail to plan, then you're planning to fail.
In other words, if you aren't equipped and ready to tackle the job you have in front of you, the chances of you not accomplishing your goal becomes much greater.

my dad says that life is about choices. If you are asked what you are gonna do about something, and say I dont know, and dont do anything about it, then you made the descision to do nothing. If you dont plan to do something about a problem (that you might or might not), maybe. Then you are planning to do nothing, in other words, planning to fail your responsibility, or whatever you had to do.
