Won't it be damaging for his later life that he's being pointed as a scapegoat of the malfunction of his family and the problems that our society has with food?
Won't it destroy his self-esteem the fact that he's being laughed at and pointed at in the street if he was some character of Little Britain?

I think the whole concept of treating overweight people as freaks to be seen in the circus has existed for many centuries. It gives permission for everyone else to laugh at them and conclude that they must be lazy, greedy, smelly and out of control.
I think with Connor, when you look at his dysfunctional family, the mothers depression etc you can see the old old story of not being able to cope, overfeeding as a sign of love and loving the child so much, but NOT knowing how to care for them properly. The mother in this case can hardly look after herself, never mind a child who is constantly craving food because this is the only way he can tell if his mother loves him
Instead of making people like this into a freak show, there should be some kind of therapy the family can attend together, learn about nutrition and take part in activities as a family.
I feel for Connor, as I myself am overweight and went through hell as a child, a target for bullies.
Things have to change, Overweight people have feelings. We are people too.
OK, lecture over. By the way, congratulations for realising what kind of exhibition the media are making of this child and his family

His health is seriously at risk should he be treated in the same way and allowed to stay at the size he is... although the UK is not perfect if this is the way we are heading with all the obesity then the NHS simply can not function anymore due to weight related problems.

The fact the mother/grandmother has allowed him to get such a size shouts they do not have a clue about nutrition or healthy living which is highly damaging towards the child... The child misses numerous days at school due to his size, what kind of life does he have at the moment??? quite frankly he needs help in getting his weight down or he will be lucky to make it into teenage years without serious health issues (actually his health is in poor state now and he is such a young age)

The only thing I would say though is social services should have acted BEFORE he reached this size, although I understand they have been trying to help the family for at least a year with nutritiona advice but the mother wont follow it as its easier to give him huge amounts of food to keep him quiet!!!!

ok, I have 2 things against this case...

1) My little brother is 185 lbs, and is 9 years old, he looks strikingly similar to this boy... And is loved, nurtured, and well taken care of, but he is over weight, and it is made to eat veggies at meal time, and he plays outside all the time...

2) I had a doctor call child protective serivices on me for not vaccinating my children, which is not a crime or illegal, she just didnt like us. Saying that it is neglect... ANYTHING can be neglect to those people. I have a permanant "file" if you will, saying I had CPS called on me... CPS KNEW it wasnt illegal, but still had to check my home and medical records...everything was fine and they said sorry they should have never been called... but guess what, it doesnt just go away!!

Why on earth does anyone seem to think that a child being RIPPED from there parents is better for them then being overweight... ECT... Unless the child is in IMINENT extreme danger, the child should remain with the parents. Someone thinking the parents are wrong, should not determine the childs placement. A childs mind will be much more messed up because of that, then in my case, not being vaccinated...

This boys life has already been ruined and publicising his story may be his only chance of a better future.

The point is, will the lad have a 'later' life if something isn't done about his weight?

Don't blame the Media (at least not on this occasion!) his Mother telephoned the newspapers-gives you some idea where her priorities lie.

I am VERY surprised the media ran his name and photo.

Or maybe appalled, but not particularly surprised.
