I got a jeep cherokee to jump my car. I'm assuming that car's battery is big enough to start mine. The power came to my car, and the ignition clicks when I turn it but the car doesn't start. What could this be? Is it the car's computer system or something? What should I do? I have to move my car, there is street cleaning in an hour! Help please! Thanks.

It made that clicking sound every time I turned the ignition as if it were about to start, but it doesn't actually start. Also, someonen mentioned taking the ground (black) connection on my car off the battery and making it touch something metal? Will this really help?

Call a repair shop and have it towed. If not the city will do it for you. You don't have the time to fix it before the street cleaner gets there.
It could be dirty battery terminals, bad solenoid, bad starter, cars computer, the shop will get you going. Good luck. Now call the tow truck quick.

Check the connections on your battery and cables and make sure they are clean and not oxidized. Reconnect the jumper battery to yours, and try again. If it still clicks, take your battery out, take it to Wal-Mart, AutoZone, O'Reilly's, or some automotive store and have it tested. If it is weak, it may need charging (some cars are difficult if not impossible to jump with a dead battery). If the battery is ok, then your starter or start switch (in the column) is bad. My guess is the starter, but check this other stuff first. If it is the starter, the street cleaner will have to go around.

Well how long did ya let the battery charge? You mght need to sit for a few minutes. Make sure the grouund id touching metal on your car and not on the battery...if it does, you will just creat a circuit. If the red is only on the battery and the black grounded the juice goes right to the battery and you will then be able to start your car.

If the battery in your car was completely depleted it could possibly be that the jumper cables you are using are not carrying enough amperage to crank your engine, either because of a poor connection or the jumper cables are not substantial enough to carry the current needed. If the cable or cable clamps are getting hot I think that may be the case...Good Luck...

when jumping a car keep it hooked up for at least 5 min while racing the doner car at 1500 to 2000 rpm..your battery may b dead for good....starter may b bad if it clicks and doesnt turn over.

Push it out of the way. Could be the relay or solinoid between ignition swith and starter motor.

If it's not turning over at all, it's either your starter or your ignition switch.

Sounds like starter. Doesn't sound like anything you can fix; probably need to call AAA and tow it out.

dirty and loose battery terminals or a bad starter solenoid.
