I love how I can draw on student's backgrounds to really bring some of the issues of the world to life.

I teach ELD (English as Second Language) and I have students from Slovakia, The Czech Republic, Cambodia, Laos, Korea, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatamala, Spain, Argentina, Peru and a few others I've probably forgotten.

It really gives me a chance to teach the parts of American culture that I love, and try to explain to my students the parts that they hate or don't understand.

Although I see a lot of racism, (the Latinos who call all Asians "Chinos," or "Chinese") I get a chance to call my students on their reactions. I get to fight racism on a daily basis, and really feel like I can make a difference in the world, one student at a time.

The challenge, the creativity that goes with the challenge. Diversity of integrating the material and the student in a way which he/she will understand and retain.
