I teach 8-12-year-olds at a performing arts center and I like to teach them a new little song to sing as a warm-up once in a while.
I was wonderfing if anyone knew of any good songs to teach them, or if you could refer me to a site that had some. I'm looking for anything that has some movement to it, like something that would be sung at a summer camp or something.
So far they know "Friends" (Mozart), "Little Cabin in the Woods", "I Went to the Animal Fair", and "Bottle Top" ("Don't throw your trash in my backyard...").
Any suggestions would be great!!

Father abraham had many sons.
Head shoulders knees and toes
If you are happy and you know it
Bug juice
Frogs go pop when you put them in the microwave
Try looking up songs on the BSA boy scouts of america web site.

Check out "Put a Shine on Your Shoes" from the Band Wagon soundtrack. Fred Astaire sang it - wonderful!!
For something slightly more contemporary, you could try Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds" -
"Don't worry
About a thing
'Cause every little thing gonna be alright...
Woke up this morning
Smiled at the rising sun
Three little birds sat by my doorstep
Singing melodies pure and true
Singing this is my message to you"
Can't go wrong with that one...

my little sister is 11 and her music teacher has them warm up with "Mary had a little lamb" and ummmmm "three blind mice" it is cute once they learn them. if those don't work find something they love to sing. Rose (little sister) sings those songs all the time. Good luck Sugar. even try "Doe a Deer"
Kimimila

david grisman and jerry garcia recorded an album in the late 80's // early 90's called "not for kids only". great old folk songs by 2 great voices with great guitar and banjo.
also the band They Might Be Giants have recorded a few children's albums and accompanying dvds. check those out.
both of these are great choices for kids and adults.

I worked with Jim Gill in Chicago. He's GREAT --- and kids really dig his songs.
My group recorded back-up vocals for one of his CDs.
