The ACLU has made the following decisions possible:
Turner v. Dept. of Employment Security, a Supreme Court case that struck down a law that made pregnant women ineligible for unemployment benefits during maternity leave.
In Peters v. Wayne-State University, women and men paid equal sums into the retirement plan, but women received lower monthly benefits than their male counterparts upon retirement.
These disparities were purportedly justified by women's longer projected life spans; individual women's contributions or benefits were calculated based on conclusions about how women on average would fare under such plans. The friend-of-the-court brief penned on behalf of WRP (a branch of the ACLU) helped procure a Supreme Court victory in . The principles established in these cases required all employer-sponsored insurance and pension plans to treat men and women equally.
Reed v. Reed, 404 U.S. 71 (1971). In this case, the United States Supreme Court ruled for the first time ever that a law that discriminates against women is unconstitutional under the Fourteenth Amendment. In reaching this result, the Court relied on a brief written by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the ACLU Women’s Rights Project’s first director. The Court rules unanimously that a state statute that provides that males must be preferred to
females in estate administration denies women equal protection of the law.
The ACLU has also made strides to abolish capital punishment in America. In the states, Illinois and then Maryland declared moratoriums on the death penalty. And in the courts, the U.S. Supreme Court declared that that executing people with mental retardation violates the Constitution’s ban on “cruel and unusual” punishment. The Court also ruled that a death penalty trial must be resolved be a jury rather than a judge. Finally, a U.S. District Judge declared that the federal death penalty is unconstitutional.
The ACLU spearheaded the defeat of an effort by the Christian Coalition and others to overturn a Florida human rights ordinance that bans discrimination against gays and lesbians in housing, employment, lending and public.

They have been trying to defend the Bill of Rights. I suspect they are very anti-Christian though. This may be because they are Jewish and think of Christianity as automatically anti-semitic. This seems to be a growing trend in the Jewish faith. To reach out and stamp someone out. I don't think they want to hurt Christians in a physical sense, but if they could stamp Christianity into the ground, they would be pretty happy. Most of them would not defend Israel either so don't take it personally. Now you will call me anti-semitic for making this observation, but I bet I can read Torah in the original Hebrew better than most reform or conservative Jews. I am just telling the facts folks. The ACLU however has the right to exist as any other organization. They do hold govt. accountable and we need more people who do that.

From the Pledge of Allegiance to the Ten Commandments,
to prayer, the ACLU has become a censor of religious freedom. They have effectively manipulated our very founding principles to repress religious liberty.
It's ironic that people came to this country for religious freedom; to have the freedom to practice their religion. Maybe the ACLU is dyslexic, and thinks the Constitution guarantees freedom FROM religion (not freedom OF religion).
The ACLU is destroying the ability of America to function as a normal society by pushing a radical agenda that supports polygamy, child pornography, infanticide, gun control and more. Why does the ACLU defend those creeps at NAMBLA? (the perverted old geezers that want to have sex with young boys)
Though they claim to be great defenders of liberty,
they are defending terrorists, molesters and murderers
while attacking honest, hard-working, principled Americans.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ACLU is the epitome of what is wrong with America.
The biggest societal mistake America commits is trying to make everything perfect. Every miniscule offense, whether real or imagined, has to be "corrected". Hence, people develop a bizarre sense of absolute entitlement.
Filmmaker Michael Moore asks people throughout his movie on the Columbine massacre why America had so much violent crime, often involving guns. Here is the answer he has been looking for: the unrealistic sense of absolute entitlement driven into the minds of Americans.
Only in America does one person have the "right" to be offended by something that neither concerns nor even affects him. In Florida, ONE Muslim complained about a nativity scene in a library, so everyone had to be deprived of seeing a beautiful, traditional Christmas display because of one silly, petulant whiner. In another case, a person complained about a nativity scene, even though they also had a Jewish Menorah and Muslim religious symbols on display for people to enjoy.
People have gotten so crazy about their "inviolate rights" that when something relatively insignificant happens, they react by shooting someone.
The ACLU does not understand one simple concept: a society cannot function when everyone has the right to disrupt absolutely anything they don't agree with. Imagine if you had a big dinner party at your home, and "Sally" complains about all the dishes containing meat, because she is a vegetarian.
"Bill" objects to the gold-rimmed wine glasses because gold is sometimes mined by underpaid workers in third world countries.
"Janice" complains that the dinner plates were manufactured by a non eco-friendly company, and demands that her host destroy all the offensive china immediately.
"Ahmed" bitterly denouces his hostess because she is serving wine, which violates the precepts held dear in the Koran. Also, this infidel hostess should be covered from head to toe in a burka, because her exposed calves are an abomination to god.
I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Just like this dinner party could not even be held, a society cannot function when the legitimacy of absolutely everything is constantly challenged.
Enough of this chaos. Let's send the ACLU over to Iran for a couples years, and then we'll see if they change their tune!

They're a group of human beings who don't always live up to their ideal, like everyone else.
At their best, they defend the principle that everyone has rights, no matter how personally repulsive they may be. They have defended liberals, conservatives, and all sorts of people and groups.
There have been many allegations of bias, though, in the cases they choose. Being more "vigilant" in removing Christian influences from public schools and the public sphere than in removing Muslim ones, for example.
People can do the research and make up their own minds.

They wrote letters in defense of the ungrateful blow hole Rush Bimbo, represented a girl in her defense for her right to express her religious beliefs, Christian beliefs.
There are many, many other things that they have done for the conservative right but unfortunately you will only hear about what they do for the liberal left.
This is nothing but a way to suppress civil rights activists and promote discrimination.
