Some are very easy to replace while others are rather difficult.
For example, on most IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads, there are a few screws under the computer marked by => symbols. Remove these and then gently pry up the keyboard from the front edge below the space bar. A small ribbon cable will be connected underneith - gently disconnect that. Replacing the new keyboard just follows the reverse instructions.
Keyboards aren't cheap and usually have to be ordered. I think the last one we bought was about $35.
If your computer is still under warranty, check with your manufacturer. Some allow a keyboard replacement without voiding warranty - others do not.

I usually get used keyboards for my clients off Ebay. They are happy with that as a cost saving measure, but I always get them from the same person.
As for replacing it, I would leave it to a professional. I can tell you some take 10 minutes to replace, some can take an hour. It is not something for the faint of heart.
Good Luck...

Laptop keyboards can range from $9 to over $100. Shop around for your keyboard part. Gather your model number, make, etc.
As to changing the keyboard, it should be very easy. Easy if you like to take things apart and put them back together.
Before you buy a keyboard, you should just clean it up. You have to take your keyboard apart. It would be fun.

I bought a keyboard for a dell laptop off ebay for about 20 bucks. It was pretty simple to install just 2 screws. On the dell the screws were behind the plate where the power button is. the plate just snaps out.

On average a new keyboard will cost you about $40 if you are able to replace it yourself.

you can do it yourself but it may be easier and cheaper to take it to your local repair shop to replace it. You can search for laptop keyboards on yahoo or google. Then check out the price.

Contact the manufactor. You do not want to do anything that may void the warranty.
