What in the world do working parents do when their kid is starting kindergarten and it's only 1/2 day and they don't provide after school care and I have no friends, family or even a babysitter willing to go pick him up for me? I could send him to a all day kindergarten but I still have to be at work before they even open the doors to the school. What should I do? I don't understand what all the working mothers do in situations like this. Thanks for any advice.....

My little brother has a friend in his class, and he goes there every morning and night. His friends' mother is a stay-at-home mom who then drives the kids to school and picks them up. Ask your child if he has any friends in the class that he'd like to hang out iwth, then call the parents. Make sure they're decent people first, of course--visit their home, make "surprise" visits (get off work early) and see what you're child is really dealing with. But usually,t his will work out okay.

Good luck!

I'd talk to the director of the kindergarten, and see if he or she can offer advice. I find it hard to believe there is nobody available to even babysit. I'd also try calling some of the other parents of kids in his class, maybe you could work out a carpooling system. Or, talk to your work and see if you can go in half an hour later and stay half an hour later.

most schools have a before and after program where your kids can go. Find a local daycare and see if they have a before and after school program. Post an ad in the school looking for a parent or teenager to watch your child. I say inside the school this way you know only parents are reading it.

yea most schools do have before and after school programs. Around here they usuall have before school program an hour before school starts you can drop your kid off but you have to enroll for that. and after school usually it's 2 hours or if u get off work before then u can go and pick up the kids

Surely there's someone near (within a 1/2 mile radius) who's in his class. Carpool with them.
