I don't see why they would, you could buy your council house, resell it, and use that money to buy another.
I take it you are working or you wouldn't get a mortgage

There use to be a scheme called the Conditional Grant Scheme, which gave you some money if you lived in a certain size property. But this scheme finished years ago and nothing has replaced it due to lack of funds available.
So, to answer your question, no.
Have you thought about shared ownership? foot hold on the property ladder but your mortgage would be less and the rest would be rent until you can afford to buy the rest of the property

My god, some people are so brass necked.
It is the council who have put a roof over your head, they did you a favour, now you want to extort money out of them to leave.
Why do a lot of people these days want something for nothing all the time.
Work your a** off to get some funds like everyone else has to !!

No they would not because if you can now afford to go private they do not see the need to supply money for that even though it would seem fair to do that it would be unfair to other private home owners as they do not get money for buying a private house. The council only help and supply money to those who cannot get a hosue with the money they have and have no hosue to go to not to people who need it to go private. Like the pople have siad above why should you get a kick start with buying a propert when other people buy houses for the first time they never get any money.
Hope you get my drift and this helps :)

Your critics should shut-up, paying you 13k to leave is 15 times cheaper than building a new house for the next person, which is roughly what my mum received when she left hers (it went straight into the mortgage on her new house). You have to have lived in council accomodation for a minimum amount of time, check with the council you lazy git!!
