If you come up with a concept, and market it correctly, people will worship it. False idols and all that...

Truly there are many people who are just...searching.

I am not familiar with the worship of the arch. However, based on today's obesity rates, too many people worship the Arches! Golden Arches that is!

Depends on your definition of an arch. There are many spiritual symbols like an arch that people follow. Variations of a semi-circle with ends pointed down can mean sky, rainbow or higher reason. Another variation represents cardinal astrology. It could be said that architects 'worship' the arch because of its frequency of use.

It sounds like a bizarre cult in St. Louis.

Note that the arch was a popular structure in antiquity. Use of cement/concrete was common, but the technology for structural steel did not exist. When using cement/concrete, it is advisable to design for compression (only) and to avoid tension members, hence the wide spread usage of the arch.
