I recently brought a female guppy that was pregnant you can see all the eyes of her fry, we are new to breeding fish and dont no when to put her in the breeding box to have them, we are worried that she + 2 others will eat them if we leave her in the tank to have them but we have got plants for the fry to hide in if we dont put her in soon enough. We have put her in the breeder box but she just jumped out, any info would be appreciated thanks

The gestation period of guppies is only 28 days from preganacy to birth. If you are seeing the eyes, then your guppy is probably within a few days of delivering. Having said that, it's amazing how big guppies can get when pregnant, so unless she's really huge, you still may be a few days away. In any case, put her in the breeder box now just to be safe.
By the way, if you are too late and she already delivered into the tank you will probably be able to find quite a few of the fry hiding in your tank. Even though the other fish will try to eat them, the little fry can hide in the gravel and near plants so look around for them. Run a net through the gravel and you'll see them pop up.
Note also that you need special food for the little fry one they are born. it is very hard to keep them alive. Sometimes they don't eat. Also, they are very succeptible to disease since they are tiny little things. Nevertheless, it sure is fun when you get one far enough along that you can release it back into the tank with the others.
Also, keep a calendar of when your guppy gives birth and then in the future you will see that there is a pattern of her giving birth every so many days. That way you'll be able to figure out when to put her in the breeders box in the future. Good luck!

I use to have Guppys I had them for about 3 years. Mine would have babies all the time they breed like crazy and thats no joke before you know it you will have a whole tank full of them and if they eat any you wont even notice. I never seperated them and they where fine they have so many babies at one time if they eat some that would be ok they usaly only do that to make room in the tank anyways so if you have a big enough tank you should be ok.

Aside from sitting and watching I don't have an answer for you but I do have some experience with Mollys. My wife and I managed to save 5 in a recent fish tank debaucle where we didn't seal off the birthing area from the rest of the tank good enough and the frye escaped to become happy meals for the rest. If it were me, I would take my chances with the mother in the birthing box and hope that you get her out shortly after for there is a period of time where she will not view her newborn as food. good luck

It sounds as if she could have the babies at any time so put her back in the breeder net and cover it with something so that she can't jump. No way to know exactly when she will have them so just put her in and wait it out. You are right, the other fish in the tank will of course eat the babies, even the mother.

If you don't have a lid for the birthing box you should get one, others could jump in as well as her jumping out. Mommy guppie will turn and eat them as soon as they are born.

I've never separated my pregnant females from the rest of my guppies and I have too many to count. she should be ok in the main tank as long as you just have other guppies in there.
