My son is almost 6 months old and has been on baby food and cereal for about 2 months. He eats 2 ounces of fruit or veggies at lunch and 2 ounces at dinner and then about 2 ounces of cereal at bedtime. Should I increase it? What is the average amount that he should consume per sitting at this age?

Solids at that age are more for practice than for calorie intake. The majority of his calories should still be coming from either breast milk or formula. Start each feeding with nursing or a bottle, then supplement with the solids until he turns away from them.

All I can tell you, unofficially and from my own experience, is that it doesn't sound like enough to me. At that age my kids were eating cereal AND a fruit or veggie at each meal.

take his lead and let him deside how much he wants and when hes done.

I never did baby food, so I don't know how it would work with that, but I would start off by putting a little bit of food on my sons tray and keep adding to it until he started playing with it, or we ran out of food.
