I suggest you look on this site at the end of this answer and order the cataloge, all kinds of animals and prices with information on care and such. If you have never had an exotic or worked with one before I suggest you try to work with some sorta zoo, barn or animal shelter first. Unless you mean one of the small exotics like lizards, and pocket pets, those you can read up on at the library. If you are looking at lions and bears then be warned you need to work at a sancuary first, believe me take the time and see what it's really like. I worked at a zoo and a sancuary, to be honest lions are cool, but your neighbors won't think so and they'll find some way to kick you.
anyway hears some prices-camels-$2500 to 7000, cougar-300 to 500, lions and tigers-$250 to 6000 depending on color, hoofstock-200 and up, marmosets-1300 and up, servals-1200 and up, wallaby( a small kangaroo)-1000 and up, wolf-300 and up, foxes-200 and up. If you want a pocket exotic then just go online most are under 1000, and let it be known most of the breeders of the super exotics won't sell to you unless you have a USDA lisence. hope this helps, and remember if you get a big animal add at least $5000 for some sorta cage. Never buy anything without an enclosure or cage first and check your local laws.

We have 3 rabbits and they are considered exotics for some reason. They can cost as little as $25 and there are many looking for homes that can be adopted for a small donation. It is illegal in my state to own wild animals without a license.

Most places you need special licences to own exotic animals, and those can be pretty hard to get.
You might want to look into what you can have first.
Also exotic animals usually don't make the best pets.
If you want something different how about a lizard? Mali Uromastx are my favorite and the are vegitarians

depending on where you live and what kind of time space and preference you have has alot to do with it and if it is a real exotic you have to research and understand its habits they still have some wild tendencies i have a bangel its a breed of cat he is half siamese/asian leopard they are not your typical lap cat mine however thinks he is a person he weighs about24lbs the size of a medium dog and does everything a house cat does same food litterbox ect.... he has never been around other cats and is not allowed outside but he loves to beat up my chihuaha he is very friendly but you have to but alot of time in to him he requires alot of attention and if he gets mad at you he has a way of letting you know such as tearing every toilet paper roll he can find even in the cabinets he opens doors the fridge and everything else however he is strange he wont eat people food drinks cranberry juice and tea and if he can get to it a white russian and hell only eat one type of cat food one flavor anything else he turnshis nose up and rather starve also he recently learned to turn on the faucet so we had to change fixtures he cant grip they are very territorial like a watch dog he knows when someone is here before i do

I have a banana spider. If you are ok with spiders, the banana spider is one of the most beautiful. He is about the size of a small saucer, bright neon green and is very gentle. Best of all they eats bugs you catch for them, and they are free. Most anyone can catch one for you in the woods. Keep him in a 10 gal aquarium (covered of course)
