Should I go to Lake this weekend?

I live in San Jose, CA & my husband asked if I wanted to go to Tahoe this weekend. We have never been there so I wouldn't even know how to begin on planning where to stay & what to take. And suggestions, I would really like to go just I would like to stay in the right place I also have a 13 year old daughter that will be coming along

And Will I get stranded up there because of the weather? I will leave friday evening and come back early Sunday
