I haven't had a job for about a year and a half, and am extremely desperate. I am annoyed of filling out hours of applications and not getting a call back. Help me.

I work at a Physical Plant at a major University. Every University will have one. Physical Plants have such "shops" as Electric, HVAC, Plumbing, Electronics Maintenance, Carpentry, and something generally called a Central Heating and Cooling Plant (CHACP). CHACP's provide the water and steam for the University. Most CHACP's will take an unskilled worker, train them, and increase their pay along the way. Some, like the University I"m at have apprenticeship programs that assist in the training at not only CHACP, but also the rest of the "shops". They normally don't pay much in the beginning (I think our starting wage for a CHACP/Utility Trainee is around $9 or $10/hr. But it's better than McDonald's or Wal-Mart. By the time a Utility/CHACP person is trained they are usually making around $15/hr, at which point they usually quit and go to work for a private business doing the exact same thing for $27/hr. Most of the people who work at CHACP's are former/retired Navy so it can have a military feel. Some can handle it, so can't.
Just a thought.
