I have a 4gb iPod and I only have about 600 songs on it. About half the space on there is being taken up by "other". I don't know what other is, or how to get rid of it. I'd like to put more songs on my iPod, but first I have to get rid of whatever "other" is. Does anyone know how?

23.4 MB of space in "Other" is simply composed of the iPod's OS (operating system), which includes The main layout, like the folders and menus for music, podcasts, extras, calendar, the iPod's Diagnostic Mode feature, etc.

If you have more than 23.4 MB of other, you can get rid of it by restoring your iPod (it will not remove your music)

Well "OTHER" is the files that the ipod needs to operate. On the newer ipods you can download the artwork for each album you have on your ipod. Try deleting those and that should free up a lot of space. Also you might want to try to convert your music to a lower bit rate. I use 96 bit rate. That way you can fit up to double as many songs on your ipod. Let me know if you need more help on this or if this helps you out.

you will have to erase your ipod. first to do this, you need to back up all you songs on itunes to a cd, just so you dont loose them.them you hook up your ipod, and there should be something you click right after it finishes updating that lets you format it, or restart it or something like that, and it will erase everything except the software on your ipod, and that should get rid of it
