I'm not referring to all media, just the tabloids that recently claimed she gained too much weight and called her fat. Given that, despite her weight gain, Tyra is still fairly fit, do you think that young girls will get the impression that even being built like Tyra isn't good enough?

1) All people see, all they get these days is what the media tells them. If a girl sees a picture of Tyra on the cover of a magazine with the headline "FAT," it's going to have an effect on her and on her body image.

2) I'm not saying Tyra is fat, I think she looks great as she is. I'm alluding to what some tabloids and other magazines have been saying about her.

MAN! I'd give all my $ to have a bod like Tyra! Yes, the media is insane, telling girls they need to look like, say, the emaciated Giselle Bundchen (who, IMO, looks awful in a bikini!). And it does have an effect on young girls. I hear my son's girlfriends complain that they're "so fat" (when they're normal) and my niece, who starves herself to be popular...it's just sickening. You know they're heavily influenced by the media. I'm glad to see people like Tyra and Kate Winslet are telling the media to go stick it!

P.S. Someone above said that girls will listen to their parents. Well, that's true...to a point! Some girls may have other issues, that cause them to put more stock in what their peers say. Also, even the most level-headed teens will often discard parental advice, even if it's temporary. This could be disastrous if it turned into an eating disorder!

I think that Tyra is attempting to help young girls into being comfortable with their own bodies and every person is different and not the typical model. I think Tyra is also trying to let girls see yes she is still fit but the media unfortunately is saying she's fat etc so that they know that even if you are in good shape you still will get sterotyped... I truly hate the fashion industry because they say if you are not a size 1 you are fat which is so untrue. I think that as long as girls have good support from their families and friends they will be comfortable with who they are not what the media expects them to be. I have had weight problems my whole life and now at the age of 28 I have learned to accept myself for who I am not what I look like or what I should look like. I have PCOS which makes it very difficult to lose weight but with a healthy diet and proper exercise I can maintain a healthy weight...

Tyra Banks is not fat.
Tyra Banks looks great now.
She looks better than before.

To answer your question, I think that some will think that that isn't good enough not just because the media said so, but also because of a mental problem that makes them think that she is fat, therefore, they are fat.

Others will not think so, because any normal person can see that she looks great.

Yes, I think it will have a negative impect on vulnerable females. There are lot of young girls out there who already believe they are too fat when they aren't and seeing what the tabloids said about Tyra Banks, it justifies their false beliefs and can tip them over the edge, causing an eating disorder.

It has and will continue. That is why she went on the view and other morning shows to complain about what the media is doing to self image for young women

well if the 'young girls' parents instill that what they read/see isn't 'reality' then NO it shouldn't affect them... it all comes from the home and what they are taught... if they're constantly reminded or told what to eat or that's fatting and i'm on a diet...that's what they'll live by.. unfortunately, most people don't realize the affect they have on their children that way.... they look up to mom and dad for guidance and love ... it comes from there first and foremost...

As long as she continues to be photographed and it is obvious that she is nowhere near fat, then no, I don't think so. Girls need education to know the difference between media sensationalism and fact.
