Male can be an independent individual. whereas if a female tends to be independent in any field whether personal or professional she has to ask her father, guardian or husband.
this is the bookish language of saving that female are equal to male but in practicle life it is a lie.

It is mainly the gender. Masculine for male and feminine for female.

They are supposed to complement each other in life. Only when they come together, new life is formed. So i think each one is incomplete without the other.
