I called Nextel and they said I would have to get another sim card to use the Blackberry and acquire a $40 additional monthly fee to my phone plan....can't I just use my sim card from my other phone

No no no absolutely NOT! The i710 is an iden falcon phone, the Blackberry is manufactured by RIM. They are two different networks and you could damage your blackberry if you do this, making it impossible to get it replaced through insurance or fixed in a service center. Go on to ebay and get a sim for the blackberry specifically, and yes there will be extra fees because the blackberry needs a data package to utilize the web access on it, your 710 does not have the capabilities, and neither does the falcon sim card.
