I know that I need a adsl modem but what speed to buy? I only get max 4mbps on my line so would a 54mbps be ok or would I be better getting n modem, though I do not need the wireless range this gives

54Mbps ADSL Routers are fine. There is a lot of hype about speed, however for most users a bulk standard 54Mbps router is more than sufficient unless many PCs are linked through the router to the internet. I take it your PC is hard wired through the router to your telephone point. If you have a wireless connection you may wish to consider a MIMO wireless router. These have 6 or more antenna and as long as you have a compatible MIMO card you will find that your reception is improved and there will be fewer, if not no, black spots in your house where you lose reception.

well the 54mb is the speed of the wireless between the pc and the router, not the router, and the isp. since the router will have a built in modem, so u connect the rj11 cable to the back of the router, rather than to a modem.
