I enjoyed your question and the answers you've received. One thing, of course, is that most people don't consider family members who have never come out -- to be gay (or bisexual) -- and here I mean people they actually knew and met in their lifetimes.

Another thing though is that most people know absolutely nothing about the sexual lives of their ancestors (even the recent ones) or older, extended family members (like great aunts and uncles ,etc.) who died years and years ago. I assure you, beyond doubt, that several were probably not straight.

I think a third thing to consider for each and every one of us is that some of these family members might not have been gay (let's say they were married) but some were most assuredly bisexual.

Start putting two and two together about your family histories. I've seen cases where examples of homosexuality and bisexuality exist over several generations in one family.

I have a cousin by marriage, he is older and gay. He came into my family when I was about 15, and he was about 30. Man, did he flip out a few years later when I met up with him at a gay club. One of my partners nephews is gay and out. Another nephew is supposedly not gay but is constantly in gay chat rooms on Yahoo making nice nice and has sworn he will never marry. Both are just out of college.

The jury is still out (yes, despite my fully functioning gaydar) on my brother. He is the second male child - I am the third - so the hormone theory might just apply.

To me, it doesn't matter as long as he is happy. However, having had several failed M-F relationships, I think he is miserable. I don't completely know the cause, but I am not jumping to conclusions.

If he is gay, he is so far in the closet that I fear he will never emerge. :o(

My Grandfather was gay and had wife, but he wasn’t bisexual. My wife of 10 years and 2 kids changed teams, but again they weren’t bisexuals. My stepdaughter changed from lesbian to straight after a 6 years relationship (again she wasn’t bisexual). Neither my ex nor my stepdaughter have sex with both sexes, but they did have a relationship with both sexes (not bisexuals are they).

I know my story will anger a lot of you, but these people in my family simply made choices to change sexuality (not bisexuals are they). You can ask any of them and you’ll get a truthful answer, we’re all very honest in my family.

No one has confirmed it. Although my cousin's soon-to-be ex-husband is bi and my now deceased great uncle never married.

My Stepdaughter was gay when she was in High School. She maintained that live choice for 6 years. During this time we still let her know that we loved her, but we would not support her choice.

After 6 years, she gave up that lifestyle and is now engaged and soon will enter into a legal marriage with him.

And while you will hate me for this story, it is true. And if you were to ask her, she would tell you that whom she had sex with was her choice, not the way she was born.
