Daydream a story until you have a good one, then start writing. There's no point in starting until you have a sound idea and a story to tell.

If you don't already know what you want to write a novel about, then how are you going to go about writing the novel? Do you have an idea of something you are interested in? Do you even just have an idea for a character? Maybe start by writing about that character, and see what grows out that. Maybe an idea will start to gather inside your head.

Pick something you like. If I gave you a subject and you didn't know about it how could you write about it?

That's for you to decide. It has to be something you know The way my wife and I met would be great, but you don't know anything about it.
