It sounds like he is depending on others for his happiness. There is a reasonable amount of time for sadness, but extended depression needs to be treated. You can talk to him on how companionship comes in many forms of love. A mother's love, a father's love, a friends love. They are all love, but all different. He also should love himself. Tell him he is God's creation and if He didn't think he was worthy he wouldn't be here. Tell him to look inside himself for what he is looking for and he can probably find it within himself. None of us will ever be happy unless we can find happiness within ourselves. The depression is a sign for him to stop and look and make a decision on how he wants it to be. You seem to be good friends to want to help. So, just stand by when he needs your help to help himself. Good Luck!

This guy feels like crap and probably feels worthless to the opposite sex after being dumped(been there). Help him better himself, boost his ego and self esteem. He needs to get back on the horse so to speak. Dont let him isolate himself. This will do nothing for his bruised self esteem, which is the major cause of his depression

I would say, just listen to him when he needs an ear. Try and help him get his mind off things like going out and having fun with a group. Sometimes depression comes after a break up and there isn't much you can do but just be there if he needs someone. IF it continues to get worse, I would suggest to him to see a doctor to see if he needs medication.

He has more probelms than any person can advise him upon. He obviously relies his happiness on unrealistic things, such as girlfriends. The best thing you can do is remain a friend, listen when he asks you to, don't give too much advise.

He seems depressive, maybe he is sick and needs to see a psychiatrist to prescribe him some medicine. That really helps, plus therapy.

You and your friends can get together with him to see a movie or do something else, so he will not be alone and focus on his breakup.
