Not sure what you are asking here. Republicans oppose a tax increase with arguments made up of facts. (IE tax increases slow the economy, tax increases actually lower revenue in the long run, etc...) The Democrats argue against Iraq with its an illegal war, there are no WMDs, there is no progress(a lie), things are getting worse, etc... The Democrats voted overwhelmingly to approve the use of force and all along have worked to undermine the Administration and the military during the conflict. And they have never, not once, offered a plan that addressed meeting our objectives in Iraq, including protecting the freely elected Government while they develop the means to protect themselves. Their new majority in Congress is a result of their "I'm not the other guy" campaigning, not as a result of any plans for the future they have outlined.

I really think dropping the income tax and going to a federal sales tax would solve a lot of the deficit problems and be a boom for the economy.
People worry that a federal sales tax would be a burden to the poor, if staples like food and clothing were exempted it wouldn't effect the lower incomes as much.
Just the accounting cost saved by not having to deal with the IRS every year would punch up the economy. Also, a sales tax would tax the big underground economy that has flourished. Even drug dealers would be paying sales tax on all their expensive toys.
A federal sales tax would be a way to collect more tax revenue without increasing taxes.

Just a slap a huge tax on the bigwigs in office, I'd say. That'd hit both sides of the political circus, and benefit everyone who makes less than five million a year. It wouldn't have to be a permenant thing, but, I'd like to live in a society where we can live the American dream again, and the whole problem is that no matter who's in that big office on the hill, we're the ones who're gonna shoulder Death and Taxes. That's the way it's always been.

How does anyone lessen the burden of a tax increase? They cut out the extras they spend money on. With this "trickle-up" effect, the less products people buy means less money flowing into the gov't a la taxes. The better question to the gov't would be, in times when the tax revenue isn't as high, why do you not cut back spending?

If the Democrats want to raise taxes they should have a plan to mitigate the impact. If the Republicans want to criticize the plan they should present an alternate.

Likewise, if the Democrats don't like the way the war is going they should develop a plan that they believe will work. Criticizing the plan with presenting a viable alternative is a waste of everyone's time and money.

Not much of an answer for a plan for Iraq is it? You reduce taxes, you STOP foreign aide at $480 BILLION a year, and use the money for other programs, like paying our military a decent wage, then get out of the UN and use that money for more of your programs....pick one!

Stop handing welfare checks to able bodied people.

If you are disabled, I am more than willing to use my tax dollars to help you out.

If the only reason you dont work is because you are lazy and want a hand out...tough! go to work like the rest of us.

If you are on welfare and you have a $70,000 SUV with rims...you get cut from the welfare rolls.
