After the Second Battle of Philippi, in which Brutus was defeated, he fled into the near by hills with only about 4 legions. Knowing his army had been defeated and that he would be captured, Brutus committed suicide. His last word were allegedly "Yes, we must escape, but this time with our hands, not our feet"

Apparently he had a few "last words" !! LOL

Marcus Junius Brutus committed suicide after the defeat of his forces at the 2nd Battle of Philippi. This was not uncommon as many defeated generals of that era of Rome were summarily executed, even though they were senators as Brutus was.

Brutus’ friends are killed. Brutus believes that he is to die soon since Caesar’s ghost appeared to him again. He tries to get his servants to kill him, but they refuse. As the enemies approach, Strato agrees to hold Brutus’ sword out. Brutus runs into the sword and dies, but not before addressing Caesar one last time. His last words are "Caesar, now be still."

I had read that he had his friend Strato stab him with his sword.

(This was in Appian of Alexandria's history of the Roman Civil Wars.)
