One of the hazards of being an emotional creature. We (humans) sometimes let our emotions get the best of us, instead of stopping to think out the situation and approach it in a more logical fashion.

Times have changed and so have human beings. Today people are more driven by the mind than the heart and the greed for worldly fulfillments are so strong that it has stripped the human being of all rationality. The lust for power, success, money, fame, etc is a constant worry of most human beings and to achieve this he behaves completely irrationally.

irritations of the past act at times. Man is a social animal. He has everything like an animal but hides it for society sake. When he is not able to control he vents out. Best way to tackle is to try after some time, may be after some days

At times? Heck, they behave in completely irrational ways most of, if not all, of the time.
Edit: by the way, does the A.R. in your name stand for Ayn Rand? She would agree that people are like this.

i guess its part of games theory. nature does anything to be sure of survival of the subject. when 100 people behave the same way to an occurring desaster, all 100 will be dead probably. thats too risky. so, people do sometimes paradox interventions, that may kill, but also may save at least them and their families. you never know when its your turn to act irrational, and hope you never have to find out.

Decisions are affected by many things. Here are two...
- Logic
- Emotion
Sometimes emotion is intense and complex, making it hard for the individual to focus thinking on logical processing. The result is not always, but often...irrational behavior.

it happens with all of us though the intensity differs.we all get mood swings and we behave accordingly.this is a state of mind affected by many external or internal forces....could be stress work emotional crisis sleeplessness and premenstrual sway in case of women....as u said ..greed orselfishnesss sometimes dominate our rationality its that greed is also a kind of desperation and how can a desperate man be ever rational .desperation and rationality are poles apart.

Survival.
I wouldn't normally shoot someone in the head, but should someone enter my home who I don't know...there's gonna be a mess!
I'm normally an intensely sweet person, almost disgustingly nice, but if someone attacks my character, I will rip their sanity apart with how mean I can be.
