It is affordable, if you work hard to achieve a good education, no kids unless you can afford them too. A lot of factors weigh into this, it should not be up to other people to make sure you have healthcare. It is a hard , cruel world and you have to work hard to better your own situation, don't count on the government to give more hand outs. They can't. They can't even control a border, and that is something that should be pretty easy.

All 50 US States have healthcare programs supported by those States' taxpayers, not some other State's taxpayers. Many or most of the 50 States are the size of most of the world's countries.

The Federal government makes a bloated mess out of everything it touches. Take for example borrowing from Social Security - is giving the Federal government even more of taxpayers' money to jack with a smart idea?

The US Constitution stated that all other Rights and Responsibilities belong to the States, and to the People.

Every American citizen and only American citizens (no aliens) should be able to receive free health care. Everybody has a right to live whether they have fallen on hard times or have no other way of paying. If health care was universal corporations would not be able to exploit the industry as much as they do which is why republicans call anybody who thinks it is a good idea a commie because they defend the people who supported their campaign. But getting back to the point it has its up sides and down falls but they would have to be worked out before a plan was put in action or it would crumble quite fast with all the fraud in this country.

I'm for some type of national health insurance plan-although there are many ideas out there and I don't know which is best.

I'm not worried for myself.I go without health insurance because at my age, it's as expensive as rent. And I've seen others wiped out by healthcare deductibles and co-payments. So I've made a decision that I don't want to be old and poor-we had no idea heathcare costs would escalate at this rate. But I worry younger people don't understand how they will be affected as they get older-as they have families to insure. We already live well beyond our means(a negative 1% savings rate) and healthcare costs are rising around 12% a year! Health insurance in 1987 was $10 a month, with no deductibles and a $5 co-pay for Drs, no hospital costs..lesser insurance today would be around $1200!

Yes, I saved for retirement and I'm 15 years from Medicare. I don't count on that or Social security. Not for me to worry about but you should...

Health care should be affordable to all Americans and to achieve that we should look to the free- market for answers. For example allow people to purchase insurance policies tailored to their needs. If I don't need insurance that covers drug and alcohol abuse why should I be forced to pay for it? That is one tiny example. The government is not the answer.

I can say from two of my own experiences: 1) I spent 4 years in Germany where they have SOCIALIZED medicine. The people have no vested interest in whether or not the system is efficient because it is "free". Therefore the system is constantly burdened with erroneous hospital stays and visits. Not to mention taxes in Germany are 50% and above.

2) I am Active Duty Army. You need to look no further then my Government run health program to see massive failures. There is no competition which means no choice and no fiscal accountability. If I don't like my doctor tough! It takes 4 hours for me to go to the clinic just to be told to go home for the day when I am sick.

If people would take personal responsibility for their healthcare instead of expecting the government or their employer to pay for it we'd all be better off. Where in the Constitution say we are all entitled to free healthcare and where does the notion that our employers must pay our for our healthcare and our families? My employer doesn't pay for my home owners insurance.

Your employer does not pay for your insurance; you do in the form of lower wages to off set the expense you employer pays.
