I'd try,

Koda Kumi; rock,pop,dance
Asain Kung Fu Generation; punk rock
and so on.......I hope this helps you find something in the taste you like. Most Japanese groups and artists are pretty diverse though, it's no uncommon to find several styles on the one CD by the same artist. Check out this site http://www.videouncovered.com/ you can see PV's (promotion videos) of the latest artists and songs. Alternatively you can enter the artists name in youtube.
Enjoy the wide and varied world of Japanese music. Oh if you hunt around you might be able to find a show called CDTV (count down television) the hosts are 3D animated characters, this will give you a top 50 of the latest songs, they only play about 15 seconds of each song though but it will give you an idea of whats out there. Other shows are Hey Hey Hey, PVTV and Music Station, all in Japanese.
