I think we may have seen a bit of conscience in Simon last week after he said to Chris Sligh how Chris could play a teletubbie. That was a very mean and could have been hurtful, i think for the first time we saw that Simon Cowell had a conscience and felt bad that he could have hurt someone that he really seems to like. I think Cowell really likes CHris and got caught up in trading quips with Chris and when he had nothing funy and bright to say he resorted to commenting on Chris's weight. Cowell obviously was unarmed in the wits department when he went up against Chris. If you look at it again you can see Simon's embarassment and probably sadness at saying something that might have really hurt Chris a person Simon really likes and probably secretly admires. Chris is extremely and naturally funny and seem to have a nice personality

Why I think he can be a bit obnoxious (who can't?) I do think that he is usually right on target. His honesty can be brutal, but that's not a bad thing. He is supposed to be critiquing these contestants, and he does just that. There is no hollow praise (Paula) or silly phrases (Randy, my dawg), just honest evaluation. I don't always agree with him 100%, but usually do. He's also entertaining which, as a television personality, is exactly what he's supposed to be. Kind of like a grumpy old uncle at a wedding!

Americans seem to easily fall for marketing.

Everyone (almost) claims to hate him but then tunes in to the show every week to see what he'll do next so they can complain about his behavior.

I personally cannot stand reality TV of any sort.

Smouse28... he was absolutely NOT on Growing Pains. That guys name was Alan Thicke.

he is definitely funny but at expense of the "singers". one time he was telling this chick he she had bad habits and he was rubbing his manbreasts when he was saying it ! it was a riot. he did it for a minute or so.
