What would happen if Canada had to start their own professional league? Ouch! Talk about going from making millions to thousands in salary. Don't laugh because is this really that far of a cry from ever happening someday? I mean Nascar is sadly a million times more popular then the NHL, along with the UFC, Pros Vs. Joes, Poker on TV, or anything else on ESPN that gets higher ratings than the NHL, which is anything they put on. Do Canadiens know just how irrelevant the NHL is in America? You need us to keep this sport alive and things are getting worse and worse.

I know NHL Hockey has some very intense fans in this country because I live not far from a hockey team that has paying fans there to the roof every time they are in town to play a game. NASCAR has more fans due to the size of the places like Talladega and other race tracks where people can watch. Even a golf tournament has more space for its fans than a hockey arena. Hockey is alive in the United States.

Dude what are you talking about?

At least in Pittsburgh, hockey is probably only second to football. And in cities like Buffalo its their first (and only) sport. There are millions of hockey fans in the US, and keep in mind the vast majority of Nascar fans are rednecks living 100 miles from the nearest city.

The lack of ratings can be attributed to the fact that the games are only aired in the cities competing in the game. Such as a Pittsburgh - New Jersey game would only be aired in New York, New Jersey and Pittsburgh. Things like poker and Pros vs. Joes and UFC are not city-specific and are thus aired everywhere. Football is popular enough that its games are also aired everywhere.

Also its spelled "Canadians" unless you are refering to the French-Canadiens only.

I think that the NHL is getting bigger! At least it is here in Minnesota. The MN Wild are still a fairly new team, and their games at the Excel Engery Center have been sold out for months!! Even the Girls High School Tournament is a big deal in Minnesota...don't know why on that one. I guess that's why they call MN the State of Hockey!

I think Canadians realize this already but do they care? No.
So bring back the original six. I think it's more the southern states that have less fans than anyone else in the US.

There will always be Hockey Night in Canada! NHL or outside on the pond.... We do not need America to keep OUR sport alive.

That's just not true. I hear that a lot, but while hockey is the dominant sport in the US it is very important to millions of people.

I live in Buffalo and it's huge here, look at NY, the Red Wings, Boston, Philly---there are lots of areas where hockey is huge.

Not overly impressed with your attitude.

The trouble with hockey is that the major revenue areas are in the US and are populated with a majority of people who don't understand the game. In some ways it would be better if hockey were out of many of the American centers and Canadians got control of their game. Most true Canadian hockey fans wouldn't miss the American influence. Yes the players would make less but how much money should you really be paid to play a game. When push comes to shove, HOCKEY, like all sports is just a form of entertainment.

There are plenty of Americans that would care if hockey went under.

ESPN doesn't show anything to do with hockey because they are mad about the NHL moving to OLN (or whatever that network is called today).

It was a bad decision by the NHL, but what do you do.

I love hockey and I would def care. I am not going argue the fact that there are alot more diehard fans in Canada but being a Pens fan, I would be pissed if I couldn't go to a game.

alot of people in America would care. and if the NHL did go down the canadiens would sit and ponder for about 5 years before n e one came up with making another league. nthen 10 yrs later they would have a 30 team league and then america would get pissed cuz the canadians have something they dont so then they would prolly ask to join and it just wouldnt be their league n e more like it is now.

The people of Canada would support a Canadian league...the players are overpaid anyway, if they made a decent salary $250k or so, they woul and could play...don't kid yourselves, Canada does not need the NHL, the NHL needs Canada...
