i've owned them all. All computers are the same quality internally. Just pick the cheaper one which is HP. They all are good. When it comes to brand, remember they are all the same inside..just go for price and what comes with it. I notice that I can get same quality from HP for a cheaper price then Dell and it works the same.

I hear more owners complain about dell than any other pc out there, a few about gateway...... I have a Compaq presario, made by hp and cant say that I have had a problem in a year of owning this pc. I also have a friend that has an hp desktop than runs like a champ for 2 years now......
As far as processors, if your a gamer, amd is the way to go, if not intel is the choice......
I also have an emachines desktop that has been around for 3 years, awesome support, I would give emachines 5 out of 5 stars. I had one issue, no questions asked, they sent a pre paid box to my house for the pc, I sent it off, they fixed it, not one dime of my money went out on the repair, and that was with the standard one year warranty....

Hope this helps......

Apple is the best IMO. They consistently get the highest satisfaction ratings, the least problems of all pc manufactures,( do some research your self) Contrary to what some may say, they are NOT more expensive, than Dells HPs etc. they are either about the same or less, and you can pay far more for a similarly spec'd PC. You also don't have to worry (so far) about viruses, etc. that you do on PC's (windows) as of to date, Macs = 0 viruses (OS X, roughly less than 15 for pre OS X operating system, believe those had to do with MS word scripts or something)... PC's = 50,000. Also if you insist on using Windows, or even want to use Linux, you can very easily do those and so many other OS's on the new intell based Macs. I won't go into how much better Macs look, because we all have our own tastes. and in case anybody tries to mention there is more games on PC's, save it, cause as I said macs will boot Windows OS. (XP, Vista, whatever) * ok you can get a pc for less, but you are either getting less for it, and/ or are building it your self, but then again, when you add in all the great software that you get on the Macs, the Macs come out ontop.

Well you should forget about Gateway, HP and Dell. The best computer is the Pfeifer 500 Xseries.

Well, I really couldn't say which brand is the best.

Comparing those three are like compairing Ford, GM and Dodge vehicles. Ideally, they are all the same. But you will always find people who got a bad one and swear that they are terrible.

I can tell you that support-wise, they are different.

If you buy a dell and have a problem you will have to ship it to them.

If you buy an HP or a Gateway, they have service centers located in almost every city bigger than 50,000. That way you just bring it in.

I had NIGHTMARES with Gateway. Gave them two shots: one with a desk top and two years after with a laptop. Both Were Complete Disasters!!!
I ended up going to Best Buy for the laptop (a Sony Vaio - which is my favorite and will never go back to a desktop) and Dell when I was trying to get a desktop. I had great experiences with both.

I'd stay away from Dell. Nothing but problems for me and a friend. They may have decent customer service but their quality control plummeted. If you're savvy enough, you can construct your own computer for cheaper and get better performance.
