I'm a 16 year old girl and i can't dance. I see all the other girls how they put their arms in the air and just move with the music - i can't do that. Plus i have a low self esteem so i'm very uncomfortable dancing in front of people. I'm invited to a b day party where there'll be lots of dancing, does anyone have a few tips for me?

What about rock music - or to songs from justin timberlake like sexy back and my love?

The best thing to do is practice in your room alone in front of the mirror. Dont be too stiff but dont be too loose either. Just feel the rythym in your body. Do not step side to side either, that just looks really bad for anyone. When you get to the party make sure that you dance with a group of other girls and you can try to mimic their moves but dont make it too obvious. I hope this helps. Try not to be too shy either. Be confident!

When I was 16 I started doing Medieval English and Russian folk dances. I found that some of them go very nicely with modern music. I was different, yeah, but I'm different anyway, and people respected me when they saw me doing Korobushka solo at my senior prom because my date didn't want to dance. Some of them even joined in because it was different.

That was my solution. If you're not inclined to the weird, just feel the music. Make it your own. It doens't matter what you look like, really. Are you having fun out there? GREAT! Mission accomplished. If the others there don't see that, well, their opinion is not worth having. Remember in teh movie "Hitch" when he taught the fat guy to just move in place, but he got all freaky on the dance floor anyway, and the girl ended up loving it? It really happens like that in real life. Just go with the music and your body.
