I would like to know if anyone has had a timing belt changed on a 1.8 zetec E Ford Focus and if so, was the timing belt guide pulley also renewed ? Also how many miles/years can the pulley be safe and can you tell when it is worn?

IT ALL depends on the model,
but usually every 60-65k
but if in doubt, then just get it changed.

When the timing belt is changed the tensioner should be changed as well, the guide pulley and the tensioner should come as a kit with the new belt, 60,000 miles is about right, don't take chances as a broken timing belt can, and almost certainly means a replacement engine.

without a doubt you HAVE to change the cambet tentioner/pulley at the same time as the belt as if you do not the tentioner can then cause the new belt to wear out VERY quickly so you need to have the whole thing done and bout 60k is about right

they are usually changed at around 60000 miles, but check your service book it should give you all the info that you need for servicing
