I am 3 days overdue and went to the doctor yesterday. I am dialated 3cm and my cervix is ripe enough to be induced. I could be induced on Thursday if I wanted to but I can wait till monday and be induced then if I dont go into labor on my own. I am not asking your opinion on whether or not I should be induced, I just want to know if anyone has been induced and wished they had waited or waited and went into labor on their own. I will be 41 weeks and 2 days next monday and I have had my membranes stripped 2 weeks in a row and still nothing. I am not uncomfortable, unbelievably, I am quite comfortable and happy. Do you think from experience that it is worth it to wait or would you rather be induced just to have the baby?

I had an induction at 39 weeks (DH had just been put into active military duty and I wanted him to be present for the birth). While I wouldn't do it differently, I most certainly do NOT want to be induced with my next pregnancy. Pitocin is awful stuff, and I would rather let nature take its course and be surprised with labor. Besides, it's entirely possible your due date is off a little. If you are already at 3cm, you may go on your own without needing an induction.

Yes, definitely wait! I was induced with all three of my pregnancies. I want so badly to be able to experience going into labor on my own, but my doctor has come to the conclusion that I probably never will. It also depends on what kind of birth plan you have, if you want to try to go without an epidural or IV or anything like that, then definitely wait. Otherwise, you will probably have a similar experience, in fact in might actually be faster with an induction. But since you are comfortable and happy, I think you should wait. If you do go into labor yourself, there will be less chance for complications and it will be more natural and enjoyable. Good luck. If you do end up getting an induction, rent some movies to take since you will be waiting for a long time. Also ask if you can receive prostaglandins (like cytotec) before pitocin, it is so much nicer.

I had to be induced. I was 41 weeks and 1 day. I chose to go ahead and do it because I was extremely uncomfortable and plus my husband was being deployed a few weeks after and I wanted him to be able to spend as much time with our baby before he left. I was admitted to the hospital at 8 PM on a Monday and unfortunately the drugs they were giving me wasn't helping. When the doctor came in the next morning, she gave me something else. I was so happy to finally get my epidural which was about an 1-2 before I delivered. My doctor broke my water and I delivered about 30 mins after which was at 5:47 Tuesday evening. I hope if you decide to be induced, it doesn't take as long, but even a regular labor could be this long or longer. I wish you the best of luck

If you are not uncomfortable and the baby is not in distress, I would wait. The doctors that I work for will let patients go to 42 weeks, if the baby is doing well. If you have had your membranes stripped twice now, I don't think baby is ready. But then again, some people would rather go ahead and be induced, especially if your cervix is "ripe" (as we call it), but you never know if the baby goes into distress or your labor doesn't progress, you may end up having a c-section.

My experience with being induced was quite unpleasant to say the least. I was in pain from the minute I started dialating (they used petocin and cervidil) I was not aloud to move around and at the end when it was close to the time to push, they turned my epidural off so I felt all the pain with no medication. My second daughter I went into labor and it was so easy, virtually no pain at all!! But my experience with being induced may have been so bad because it was my first pregnancy. Good luck in what ever you choose. I think it would be worth the wait.

I went into labor naturally and progress stopped. My water was broke so they ended up inducing anyway. So even waiting for nature, there's no guarantees. You do what is best for you and your situation. If you aren't miserable and are happy to be pregnant, then wait until Monday and see what happens. One plus to being induced is you don't have to worry about when it's going to happen, and the atmosphere may be a bit calmer for you, because you'll be prepared before you get there.

I was 2 weeks overdue with my daughter and they gave me an induction date and I told them, I wanted to wait. They gave it to me for Tuesday and I went into labor on Saturday morning...I was glad I waited! I am pregnant again and I will not be allowing them to even set a date. Nature takes it's course and that is how it should be. Everyone is so in a hurry to have their babies without realizing that nature does what it's supposed to when it's time. The only reason I can see an intervention is when you are having a difficult or High risk pregnancy, then your best bet is to do what the Doctors say, if you are otherwise healthy, wait!

My one concern in this situation would be the size of your baby. The longer you go before the birth, the larger the baby gets. This presents two potential problems: First, If your baby is larger, then it's simply a bit more difficult to give birth, as a rule. Secondly, as your baby grows, it requires more oxygen and nutrients, and the placenta, while very adaptable, does have its limitations. As long as your doctor is confident that you can still deliver vaginally, and that your baby is not suffering from placental insufficiency, you don't need to be induced; if your doctor starts to see signs of a problem, then induction is definitely the way to go.

My sister was induced because of medical reasons, but she was in labour for 2 days. The doctor told her that labour is longer when you are induced. Based on that, I would say if you are comfortable, then wait and see if it happens naturally.

I've had friends who were induced and wished they had waited. I've never had friends who had waited and wished they hadn't. Hope that helps!
There are also a lot of people who believe being induced is dangerous.
