What about trying it on a temporary basis like be an aupair or some other job there for a year or so just to see if you really want to live there permantly? To do that you would need a work visa which you would be able to get when you are offered a job.

Credit cards in Greece are like in the rest of the world, they work fine, we just don't use them very much for casual expenses, like in taxis or things like that.
Jobs are not very good, I mean salaries are quite low compared to the cost of life.
However, in Greece we manage to have a good time always, the weather is nice, the place is nice, there's a lot to do, entertainment, cafes, theatres, shops, restaurants, etc.
Since your parents were born here, I guess you could take the citizenship, but you'd have to go to the army for 6 months. As an American citizen, you should ask at the greek embassy what you need in order to take a permit to stay in Greece. Also, you may want to call the Ministry of foreign affairs

or your relatives in Greece can go to a ΚΕΠ (centro eksyphrethshs politon) and seek info.

Also, contact www.saeamerica.org (Symboulio Apodhmou Ellhnismou) or www.ggae.gr (genikh grammateia apodhmou ellhnismou).or
