My Aunt Carol has always been a hero of mine. She is strong, independent, open-minded, intelligent and a lot of fun. She is also one of the only people on that side of the family who isn’t homophobic and racist, which I consider a remarkable accomplishment considering she was raised surrounded by that sort of bigotry.

My step-dad is another hero of mine. Aside from having a healthy love of the outdoors, he’s also handy with cars, wood-working, electrical, plumbing, etc… a real do-it-yourself kinda guy. Thanks to him, I had the experience of helping build the family house from the ground up when I was 13… but I really should’ve paid more attention when he made me ‘help’ him fix the cars. (Of course I love my real father also, but he’s more of a sit-in-front-of-the-tv and pay-someone-to-fix-things kinda guy, so I’m grateful I had a second father figure for additional inspiration.)

My husband who is leaving for Iraq in 4 weeks....the youngest of 8 children, joined the military and quickly climbed the ranks....obtained his Bachelors and then his Masters degree "just because" but remains enlisted because he feels a sense of comraderie with his fellow Chiefs. He also adopted my daughter since we had been dating since she was 3 months old (she's almost 5) and told me the day we went to court that even if they told us NO, she was his daughter no matter what they told us.....he has also taught me how to stand on my own two feet (since I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth) and taught me the importance of responibility.
He is my Prince Charming, my hero, and my best friend. And he's really cute! :)

I would say Rosa Parks. She was willing to stand up for what she believed in and not give in to bullying. I only wish that I could be like that. I have a tendency to let others walk all over me.
